Cybersecurity: Managing the threat

Date: 5 December 2018
Time: 10:10

Arguably the horse has already bolted. Airports and airlines are, after all, already being routinely targeted by cybercriminals who aim to financially gain from their activities or disrupt our operations. But, so far, no cyberattack has ‘succeeded’ in causing a catastrophic incident resulting in mass casualties. How likely is it that such an event will occur and how well prepared is the industry to counter it? And, given the considerable debate within the industry as to where cybersecurity should sit in an airport or airline – is it an IT issue or is it a security issue? It’s both, but where is the issue best managed? IT departments tend to have a better understanding of cyber-related issues, yet security departments are responsible for ‘attacks’ on the organisation.
