San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport (OAK) has announced that it is introducing new augmented reality (AR) games for its passengers, enhancing the travel experience through a partnership with educational technology platform Agents of Discovery®. The collaboration is part of the broader Bay Area Explorer 5.0 Campaign, which involves various Bay Area agencies.
“The San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport team is excited to unveil this new in-terminal activity for passengers at the airport with Agents of Discovery,” said Craig Simon, Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland. “It’s a fun new way for families to spend time at our airport while offering educational experiences for children.”
The Bay Area Explorer 5.0 Campaign is currently live and will continue until 7 September 2024. Participants can download the free Agents of Discovery mobile app, which features “Missions” or games, at different locations. These missions include educational challenges that teach players about local history, culture, ecosystems and safety, with content available in English, Spanish and French. OAK offers aviation and environmental-themed missions for users.
Other agencies participating in the campaign include: U.S Fish and Wildlife – Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge, the National Park Service – San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, Santa Clara County Parks, California State Parks-Seacliff State Beach, Oakland Zoo, BART, Madera County, City of Morgan Hill, Sacramento County Parks and the City of San Jose. More information can be found at the Agents of Discovery website.
The initiative aims to engage passengers, especially families, with augmented reality-based interactive and educational content during their time at the airport, enhancing their travel experience while also promoting learning.
