The Chair of Sustainable Aviation, an industry association, Matt Gorman, responds to the King’s Speech and SAF proposed policy.

Matt Gorman, the Chair of Sustainable Aviation, an industry alliance designed to promote cleaner and more sustainable practice in the airport and aviation sector, has issued this statement, responding to the King’s Speech:
“This announcement represents a significant milestone in UK aviation’s journey to net zero. A revenue certainty mechanism will turbocharge private investment in the UK’s emerging Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) industry, helping to produce the hundreds of thousands of tonnes of fuel needed each year to meet the UK’s ambitious SAF mandate. That, in turn, will ensure the cost of flying remains competitive for consumers and create thousands of new green jobs.
We look forward to working with the Government towards a Government-backed and funded scheme as soon as possible, so that UK-produced SAF – currently on average 70% less carbon intensive than fossil jet fuel – can play its full part in our important journey to net zero aviation this decade and beyond, whilst creating thousands of jobs across the nations and regions of the UK.”
