Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR) have signed a strategic cargo partnership to enhance digitalisation, regulatory alignment and trade flows between Europe and India.

Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR) have concluded a strategic air cargo partnership, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening trade connectivity between Europe and India.
The agreement marks Frankfurt’s first strategic cargo partnership with an Indian cargo hub and is designed to enhance cooperation across digitalisation, regulatory optimisation and operational efficiency. Both airports will collaborate on innovative digital solutions, data-led processes and coordinated engagement with cargo stakeholders to future-proof supply chains.
Alexander Laukenmann, Senior Executive Vice President Aviation at Fraport, said: “The partnership with Bangalore International Airport represents the creation of a robust bridge between two key cargo and economic hubs that will unlock new opportunities for businesses and serve as a major driver for the future of international goods traffic. In line with the motto ‘Creating the Future of Cargo. Together.’, we’re focusing on partnership-driven innovation. We want to create optimal conditions for our customers and the entire cargo community. Our partnership is a key pillar of our Frankfurt CargoHub Masterplan and underlines our ambition to actively shape international air cargo traffic.”
Girish Nair, Chief Operating Officer of Bangalore International Airport Limited, said the partnership reflects a strategic move towards integrated and data-driven cargo corridors linking India and Europe. He noted that ongoing investments in cargo infrastructure, technology and capability development at BLR would be reinforced through collaboration, supporting high-value and time-sensitive freight flows.
The initiative builds on a cargo roadshow held in India in April last year, during which Fraport engaged with industry stakeholders and highlighted the strengths of the Frankfurt cargo ecosystem. The resulting agreement represents a milestone in Fraport’s global growth strategy.
India, with a population of 1.45 billion, remains one of the world’s fastest-growing markets. Frankfurt serves as a major European gateway for Indian trade, and the recently concluded free trade agreement between the European Union and India is expected to create further opportunities for air cargo expansion.
Through structured cooperation, both hubs aim to develop more efficient, transparent and sustainable cargo corridors aligned with evolving global trade dynamics.
