Annecy Haute-Savoie Mont-Blanc Airport (NCY), operated by VINCI Airports, has taken a significant step in its environmental strategy by offering Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and a 44kW electric charging station for electric aircraft. This initiative stems from a new fuelling contract with TotalEnergies, which includes the installation of a semi-underground tank for distributing SAF to airlines and airport users.

The station was inaugurated in the presence of regional officials, including Lionel Tardy, Daniel Déplante, François Daviet, Aurélien Donche (Airport Director), and Jacques Vilain from TotalEnergies. It aligns with the commitment made by VINCI Airports upon taking over airport operations in 2022 to help decarbonise both airport and partner activities.

The SAF supplied to Annecy is produced in Europe by TotalEnergies from waste and residues, such as used cooking oil, then blended up to 35% with conventional aviation fuel. SAF provides a tangible alternative to fossil fuels, enabling an immediate reduction in aviation emissions.

VINCI Airports now offers SAF at four of its French airports: Annecy, Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne, Toulon Hyères, and Saint-Nazaire Montoir.

“VINCI Airports has pioneered in offering biofuels as early as 2021 within its network of airports in France. With Annecy airport, four of our airports [Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne, Toulon Hyères, Saint-Nazaire Montoir] now offer it, which we are delighted to be able to do. The installation of an electric charging station aims to support the deployment of electric aircraft fleets, a demonstration of which was given as part of the Electric Tour, organised by VINCI Airports and the Fédération Française Aéronautique in May 2024,” said Valérie Vesque-Jeancard.

Martial Saddier, President of the Haute-Savoie Departmental Council, added: “The Conseil départemental de la Haute-Savoie is actively committed to more sustainable aviation… for the benefit of all the people of Haute-Savoie.”
