Columbia Regional Airport has been named the fastest growing US airport, driven by rising demand, expanded airline services and ongoing infrastructure investment to support growth.
Columbia Regional Airport (COU) has been named the fastest-growing airport in the United States in 2026, following a surge in passenger demand and airline capacity.
According to analysis by Mead & Hunt, the airport recorded a 107% increase in available seats, the highest growth rate among U.S. airports with more than 10,000 monthly seats.

The growth follows a record-breaking year in 2025, when the airport welcomed more than 242,000 passengers, representing a 17% increase compared to the previous year.
Airport Manager Michael Parks said the growth reflects increasing demand for convenient regional air travel.
“COU’s growth reflects the strength of our community and the increasing demand for reliable air service close to home,” he said.
To support rising passenger volumes, the Columbia City Council has approved a series of infrastructure improvements. These include the addition of approximately 600 new parking spaces south of the terminal, alongside upgrades to access roads to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.
Further expansion is planned, with additional parking capacity under development north of the terminal and future terminal enhancements under consideration. Planned upgrades include new food and beverage facilities and improvements to passenger circulation.
Airline expansion has also played a key role in the airport’s growth. United Airlines resumed services in 2025 with daily flights to major hubs, while American Airlines is set to launch new daily service to Charlotte in 2026.
In addition, Allegiant Air has introduced new leisure routes, further expanding connectivity.
With continued investment and airline growth, Columbia Regional Airport is positioning itself for sustained expansion while enhancing the passenger experience.
