London City Airport welcomed passengers heading off for the Valentine’s weekend with a poet in residence offering personalised, handwritten verses in the terminal. The initiative aimed to create a memorable start to journeys across the airport’s European network, reinforcing its focus on customer experience.
Poet Laurie Bolger spent the day writing bespoke poems for travellers and airport staff. Her presence added what the airport described as a more personal and heartfelt moment during a busy travel period.
Alison FitzGerald, Chief Executive Officer at London City Airport, said the activation reflected the airport’s longstanding reputation for passenger service. “London City has always been the airport everyone loves, and we have enjoyed bringing a lot of love to those travelling over the Valentine’s weekend. From customers flying to see colleagues in Amsterdam to families reuniting with loved ones in Madrid, we are proud to be part of every journey that brings people together.”
Bolger said she was struck by the enthusiasm of passengers and the atmosphere in the terminal. “Chatting to passengers and staff was such a highlight, and the atmosphere was lovely while writing poetry in a unique setting. I delivered messages of love for families, couples, solo travellers and the incredible team across the airport. The connection was so reassuring in a world that feels increasingly screen led and at times lonely. We had tears, hugs and laughter and I would return in a heartbeat.”
London City Airport continues to be recognised for its customer experience. It was named the UK’s Best Airport by readers of Condé Nast Traveller in 2025 and London’s Best Airport by Which? and The Telegraph. With rapid processing times that see some passengers reach the gate in around 10 minutes and strong public transport links via the DLR, the airport maintains its position as the quickest and best connected gateway in the capital.
