Things to do
For over 2000 years, entrepreneurs, artists and revellers alike have flocked to the area including the famous playwright William Shakespeare, who lived and worked in the area for most of his time in London.
This riverside district shares a wealth of historical landmarks and a tangle of gentrified streets. Lining the Thames with historic treasures, free live music, street markets, pop-up events and award-winning museums, Bankside boasts some of London’s most popular spots including the world-renowned Tate Modern, Borough Market, Shakespeare’s Globe and The Shard, Western Europe’s tallest building.
Formerly an integral cog of London’s river trade, Bankside’s Thames-side tourist trail offers a calendar of event and actives throughout the year, while the quiet side streets are host to an exquisite array of coffee houses, independent galleries, design studios and mouth-watering restaurants.
Wander beneath the endless tunnels to uncover the local scene, where the pubs are bursting at the rafters and the nearby food markets are among the best in the city.
