Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA), operator of Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) and Willow Run Airport (YIP), has partnered with Michigan State University (MSU) Extension Office to grow, harvest and process bioenergy crops on airport-owned property. This strategic initiative—the first of its kind in the Midwest—represents WCAA’s commitment to sustainable aviation in part through the promotion and development of aviation biofuels.

Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA), operator of Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) and Willow Run Airport (YIP), has elected Renée Axt as its new Board Chairperson, Samuel A. Nouhan as Vice Chairperson and Sue Hall as Secretary. The elections were conducted as part of the Board’s regular meeting yesterday at the Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport. All three officers assume these new roles effective immediately.

Passenger traffic at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) increased nearly 2 percent during the first nine months of 2010 compared to the same period last year, according to data released today by Wayne County Airport Authority’s (WCAA) Division of Financial Planning and Analysis. More than 24.3 million passengers flew through DTW during the first three quarters—up from 23.9 million during the same period in 2009—cementing a pattern of growth in traffic for Michigan’s busiest airport.

Delta Airport Customer Service Ramp Agent Greg Baskerville was named Detroit Metropolitan Airport’s (DTW) “Safest Employee” during a special ceremony this week as part of the airport’s second-annual DTW Health & Safety Expo. Baskerville was selected among 25 nominees from across the airport community—representing employees of the Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA), airlines, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and other airport business partners—who were also recognized for their outstanding commitment to workplace health and safety.

Total passenger traffic at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) grew for a third consecutive month in July 2010 and stabilized year-over-year passenger numbers for the first time in two years, according to Wayne County Airport Authority’s (WCAA) Division of Financial Planning and Analysis. 3,074,803 passengers flew through DTW last month – an increase of 3.4% over July 2009’s total of 2,973,505.

The Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA) has awarded a major contract for facility and infrastructure maintenance to Romulus-based William A. Pritula & Sons, LLC for projects at both Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) and Willow Run Airport (YIP). The contract is valued not to exceed $2,632,500 for the initial, one-year term and includes two, one-year renewal options.

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) welcomes nearly 36 million passengers per year, making it the nation’s 11th busiest airport and the world’s 19th busiest in 2006 according to Airports Council International (ACI). Located approximately 26 miles (42 km) southeast of the major U.S. city of Detroit, Michigan, DTW is the primary international airport serving a metropolitan area of more than six million people.
DTW is also the largest hub and primary U.S. international gateway for Northwest Airlines, the world’s fifth busiest carrier, and the second-largest hub for ultra-low cost carrier Spirit Airlines.
