ACI Asia-Pacific today announced the results of the Green Airports Recognition where airports are recognized for their environmental achievements.

The Green Airports Recognition is a new initiative of ACI Asia-Pacific with the objective to promote environmental best practices to minimize aviation’s impact on the environment as well as to recognize ACI Asia-Pacific airports members for their outstanding accomplishments in their environmental projects. The submissions were reviewed by a panel of 5 judges.

One of the judges, Ms. Elizabeth Leavitt, Chair of the ACI World Environment Standing Committee said, “The submissions were all very well done and reflected the airport’s role in the community as well as the environmental challenges unique to each airport’s community. The submissions showed how airports are working in their communities to address environmental issues of concern. An airport can be green for the environment and save money too!”

Airports with the highest overall scores are recognized with Distinguished Achievement:

  • Distinguished Achievement in Platinum – Changi Airport
  • Distinguished Achievement in Gold – Hong Kong International Airport
  • Distinguished Achievement in Silver – Korea Airports Corporation

Three other airports are recognized with Green Airports Recognition – Outstanding Achievements:

  • Alice Springs Airport (Northern Territory Airports)
  • Incheon International Airport
  • Kansai International Airport

Commenting on the results, Mrs. Patti Chau, Regional Director of ACI Asia-Pacific said, “I wish to congratulate all the recognized airports and also to say thank you to all the airports who have submitted papers to support this program. The submissions reflect that airports in our region are actively engaging in and are committed to the sustainable development of aviation as well as to the reduction of aviation’s impact on the environment. Last but not least, I would like to thank the judges for their valuable time and support.”

Recognized airports will be invited to the award presentation ceremony to be held at the 7th ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly on May 23, 2012 in Singapore.
