Nashville International Airport is updating its exterior building and replacing interior equipment, both of which will have a limited impact on travelers. Replacements of the terminal skylight glass, terminal escalators and front terminal entrance doors began the last week of November. The project is expected to be completed by mid-August 2012. The airport will remain fully operation during this time.
This project will repair or replace four high maintenance systems, which haven’t been replaced since the terminal opened in 1987: the sliding entry doors, escalators, glass panels in the lobby and ramp-level soffits on the airfield.
“Thank you for your patience during these necessary system repairs and replacements,” said Raul Regalado, president and CEO of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority. “We realize that there will be a temporary inconvenience, but these projects will improve and enhance the safety and sustainability of Nashville International—which adds to the overall Nashville Airports Experience for our passengers, partners and employees.”
Passengers are encouraged to use the elevators located on the ground transportation and ticketing counter levels of the terminal or stairs to access any level of the terminal building.
Hendersonville-based Olympian Construction Company was awarded the main contract for the project by the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority’s board of commissioners. Olympian will use small, minority, and woman-owned business partners Perfecta Drywall, TN Coatings and Mid State Tile.
