San Antonio International Airport recognized for several industry awards

The Federal Aviation Administration recently recognized the San Antonio Airport System with a 2011 Airport Safety Award for demonstrating three consecutive years of outstanding certification inspections. The award was given because the Aviation Department has shown its commitment to Safety as demonstrated by being an industry leader in implementing a Safety Management System (SMS), which is the first in the nation to do so. San Antonio International Airport was part of a pilot program to be the first airport to implement an SMS, which will soon be an industry mandate in the near future.
The FAA also recognized the Airport in part due to the development of a unique and industry recognized Foreign Objects Debris Prevention Program, which ensures that the Aircraft Operations Area and airfield is free of debris and foreign objects for the safety and security of all passengers. The FAA recognized the Airport for its and commitment to overall safety.
Small Business Development Award
The Small Business Division of the Aviation Department was recognized by the Southwest Region of the Federal Aviation Administration with a 2011 Excellence in Disadvantage Business Enterprise Program Award. This is the first time the Region has given the award.
Grand Opening Events Recognized by Industry Peers
San Antonio International Airport was recently a winner in Airports Council International – North America’s 2011 Excellence in Airport Marketing & Communications Contest. The airport was awarded 3rd Place in the “Special Events” category for their work on the grand opening events celebrating the opening of the new Terminal B facility. This year’s contest had 175 individual entries from 44 airport members in the U.S. and Canada.
