Halifax Stanfield International Airport (HSIA) has again been rated by its passengers as one of the best airports in the world for overall passenger satisfaction in its class (under five million passengers).

The 2010 global Airport Service Quality (ASQ) ratings released today show Halifax Stanfield as second in the world. Ottawa International Airport took over the top spot in this class. This is the first year Ottawa has received the top honours. Halifax Stanfield had been rated Best in the World in this class for the past seven years. The ratings are administered by Airports Council International (ACI).

“We have had the pleasure of receiving the top rating in our class for seven consecutive years, more times than any other airport in the world,” says Tom Ruth, Halifax International Airport Authority President & CEO. “Ottawa has now earned this recognition and we are truly pleased another Canadian airport has received this title and we send along our congratulations to them.”

Through its years in this global airport ranking program, HSIA has earned a total of 26 awards – 16 first place, 8 second place and 2 third place.

“We are also very gratified that Halifax Stanfield’s scores have improved over the years since we joined this program nine years ago,” noted Ruth. “This continual improvement is a testament to the dedication of everyone who works and volunteers at Halifax Stanfield. Our commitment to superior service is one of our most important shared values at the airport.”

The ASQ survey measures 34 separate elements of passenger airport experience and how well each element satisfies passenger expectations. Each year, more and more airports participate in the rigorous survey. In 2010, 154 airports across the globe participated.

“It’s truly wonderful that airports all over the world are realizing the value of participating in these passenger surveys,” says Ruth. “As more airports focus on passenger satisfaction, then more and more passengers have a much better airport experience.”

In a related development last month, HSIA earned the “Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Assured” industry benchmark of service excellence. HSIA is the first airport in Canada and just the tenth airport in the world to receive this prized designation. This certification recognizes an airport’s commitment to maintaining the industry’s highest service standards.
