Finavia has launched a historic revamp of services at Helsinki Airport. As a result, a group of important international companies have arrived at the airport, which will support the growth of Helsinki Airport as the leading transit airport in traffic between Europe and Asia. Simultaneously, they will bring a significant amount of foreign capital and new jobs to Finland.

Helsinki Airport interests global leading players in their respective fields in a completely different way than a few years ago. This attracts foreign capital in Finland. The volume of investments by new international service providers at Helsinki Airport is significant, says Anne Gullstén, Director of Passenger Services for Finavia.

Currently, the combined value of investments of companies operating at the airport is approximately 40 million euros. It is estimated that the service reform will create at least 200 new jobs in Finland.

70 new shops and restaurants to the airport

During the last year, for example Europe’s largest travel sector retailer World Duty Free Group (WDFG) and one of the largest airport restaurant service providers HMSHost have launched operations at Helsinki Airport. SSP, Finavia’s long-term restaurant operator, is also among the largest operators at the airport.

New restaurants at Helsinki Airport include My City Shop & café, Freshly Made, Two Tigers Sushi & Noodle, Johan & Nyström and Grab & Fly. Top fashion is offered, among others, by Hugo Boss, Etro, Bally, Loewe, Mont Blanc, Armani Jeans, Porsche Design and Versace Collection.

As a result of the service revamp, almost 70 new or renovated service points will be opened at the airport in the next few years.

Finavia develops Helsinki Airport in a comprehensive manner

In addition to the service reform, Finavia has an ongoing and wide-ranging seven-year Helsinki Airport development programme. It aims to ensure good flight connections in Finland and consolidate Helsinki Airport’s status as the world’s leading transit airport.

The development programme will prepare Helsinki Airport to serve an annual number of 20 million passengers by 2020.

The development programme investment is approximately 900 million euros. It is estimated that the increase in passenger volume to 20 million will bring approximately 5,000 new permanent jobs to the airport area.
