Fraport AG welcomed 5.4 million passengers at its Frankfurt Airport (FRA) home base in June 2013: an increase of 40,000 passengers year-on-year and the busiest June in the history of FRA – even though the traditionally busy Hesse summer vacation already started in June last year. For the current year, this special vacation effect will first show up in the July traffic figures. Aircraft movements declined by 1.4 percent to 42,131 takeoffs and landings in June 2013. Cargo traffic rose again in June 2013, increasing by 2.7 percent year-on-year to 184,948 metric tons.

Traffic in the first half of 2013 continued to be affected by the consolidation measures of various airlines at Frankfurt. Furthermore, a variety of weather and strike-related flight cancellations – impacting around 340,000 passengers – also had a negative impact on FRA’s traffic figures. These factors caused the first-half figures to slip by one percent to 27.1 million passengers. Without these disruptive events, FRA would have reached the previous year’s level. In the first six months of the year, the same factors resulted in aircraft movements dropping by 3.8 present year-on-year to 229,293 takeoffs and landings. As already evident in the first quarter of 2013, cargo traffic currently seems to have emerged from the economic trough: Cargo tonnage exceeded one million metric tons, up about one percent year-on-year.

In June 2013, Fraport’s five majority-owned airports – Frankfurt (FRA), Antalya (AYT), Burgas (BOJ), Varna (VAR) and Lima (LIM) – registered a 4.6 percent traffic rise to a total of 10.8 million passengers. These airports also handled a combined total of 205,119 metric tons of cargo, up 1.9 percent. Aircraft movements at the Group’s airports rose by 1.4 percent to almost 90,000 takeoffs and landings.

From January to June 2013, the Fraport Group served more than 45.6 million passengers at its majority-owned airports – an increase of 3.2 percent compared to the same period last year. Cargo activity grew by 1.2 percent to about 1.15 million metric tons. Group-wide, aircraft movements declined slightly by 0.2 percent to 382,278 takeoffs and landings during the first six months of the year. Growth drivers again included Peru’s Lima Airport (up 12.6 percent) with 7.1 million passengers and Turkey’s Antalya Airport (up 8.8 percent) with 10.3 million passengers. On the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, Burgas Airport welcomed more than 630,000 passengers (up 5.3 percent) and Varna received 388,000 passengers (up 17.2 percent).
