Busiest May ever for Chopin Airport

Chopin Airport handled over 989,000 passengers in May 2013, a 0.8% increase year-on-year and yet another record month for the airport.

As in the previous months, the high passenger numbers were mainly driven by the decision of two low-cost airlines, Ryanair and Wizz Air, to temporarily transfer their flights from Modlin back to Warsaw. The former carried over 141,000 passengers at Chopin Airport in May 2013 and the latter – more than 84,000.

Aircraft movements totalled 13,000, 1.7% less than in May 2012. Andrzej Ilków, director of Chopin Airport Operations Safety Bureau, said: “The high number of aircraft movements a year ago was a result of the frequent flights operated by OLT Express, which no longer exists”.

Since the beginning of 2013, Chopin Airport has served nearly 4 million passengers, a 7.4% increase on the corresponding period of 2012, including 3.5 million travellers on international flights (+13.9%) and 431,000 domestically (-26.9%).
