Munich Airport has once again won the voting as Europe’s best airport at the World Airport Awards 2010 – a title won by Munich four years in a row from 2005 to 2008. At the same time, Munich Airport moved up in the rankings of the world’s best airports from fifth to fourth. This was the outcome of the latest survey by Skytrax, a London-based independent aviation research institute, with more than nine million respondents worldwide. Dr Michael Kerkloh, the CEO of Munich Airport, accepted the latest honor at an awards ceremony in Brussels on the occasion of the international Passenger Terminal Expo.

Edward Plaisted, the director of the Skytrax Institute, praised Munich’s “fantastic performance” in providing its customers with a stress-free and particularly pleasant airport experience, remarking that, “In a time of increasingly fierce competition among international airports, Munich Airport has succeeded in maintaining its status as one of the world’s best airports while regaining its title as the best in Europe.”

Michael Kerkloh sees the enormous esteem accorded to Munich Airport as “an impressive affirmation of the joint efforts of the airport operating company, the airlines and all of the other partners working in Munich.” In thanking the organizer, the airport CEO had special words of praise for the outstanding team spirit of the “Munich Airport family”. “Despite the global economic crisis and the turmoil in the aviation industry we have succeeded in upholding Munich Airport’s excellent standards of service. This amazing recognition from our passengers is the best motivation for continuing on our successful path.”

In the World Airport Awards, approximately 200 international airports and airlines are rated by passengers every year in a total of some 40 categories ranging from quality of handling and services, staff courtesy and efficiency, shopping and leisure amenities and transit facilities.
